About Kern Contracting, Inc.

Kern Contracting Inc., is a Hutchinson, Kansas based construction contracting firm specializing in complete home construction. We also provide remodeling services and sub-contracting construction services. Kern Contracting is owned and operated by Michael “Mike” Kern.

For the past fifteen years, Mike has worked hands on in all phases of the new home construction process – from foundations, to framing, to roofing to exterior finish and custom interior finishing. Mike believes that it is important for a building contractor to be very involved in all these phases, getting his hands dirty and participating in the actual building and construction work as a project progresses.

This philosophy sets Kern Contracting, Inc. apart from other builders in the area and we are committed to this approach. While Mike is very involved in the building process, he also relies heavily on the skills of Matt Parsons and Travis Conrad on all projects. Kern Contracting, Inc. also engages the services of many other skilled subcontractors that help Mike build the best homes possible.

Mike graduated from a local high school and continued his education with the Hutchinson Community College Building Trades Program. Thereafter, Mike worked for well respected contractors in the McPherson and Wichita, Kansas areas for more than ten years. Mike returned to his hometown area of Hutchinson, Kansas and launched Kern Contracting and Tile in 1999, eventually incorporating the business and changing the name to Kern Contracting, Inc. in 2002.

Mike welcomes a challenge to do something new or different on each and every home to make it more personal to its owner. "Building a Better Reputation OneJjob at a Time," is Kern Contacting, Inc's slogan, but Mike believes his wife's poem says it the best:
